Analysis of the Control System for a Soft Starter of an Induction Motor Based on a Multi-Zone AC Voltage Converter

Abstract: The development trends of the modern world of power electronics dictate the requirements for the use of AC voltage converters as soft starters for induction motors. A direct connection of the motors to the mains voltage negatively affects both the motor itself and the mains system as a whole due to high starting currents values, which entail, as a rule, more frequent accidents and shorten the drive system service life. Modern methods of motor acceleration are implemented in practice by means of frequency conve… Show more

“…Table 4 shows the simulation results, as well as the level of the ripple coefficient (K p ). The presence of an active filter in the charging and rectifying device allowed for reducing voltage ripples up to 6 times, which also allowed for reducing the number of filter capacitors at the output of the rectifier of the charging and rectifying device from 6 units, 6800 µF each, to 3 units [78].…”

“…Voltage waveforms of a simple circuit of a buck-boost AC voltage regulator are shown in Figure 38. To construct a mathematical model of a regulator with a switched quasi-impedance of the power supply, a direct method of calculating the ADE was used [34].…”

“…Consequently, it can be inferred that almost 53% of the entire electrical energy consumption is accounted for by this type of motor. Also, approximately 70% of machine is used as induction motors for small power (<10 kW) [1][2][3]. Accordingly, the tendency is to concentrate the energy optimization studies on low-power IMs since the losses in these motors are of a value significant with their nominal power.…”
