The Sarcheshmeh and Sanganeh for ma tions are the Lower Cre ta ceous deep ma rine se quences of the Koppeh-Dagh sed imen tary ba sin, which re vealed a di verse as sem blage of dinoflagellates. The pa per dis cusses palynostratigraphy, palynofacies and palaeoenvironment of these rock units in a bore hole drilled in the east ern part of this ba sin. Ninety-five ditch-cut ting sam ples were pre pared and stud ied paly no logi cal ly, which re sulted in rec og ni tion of 76 spe cies of dinoflagellate cysts be long ing to 29 gen era. The re corded as sem blages are in ac cor dance with the Odontochitina operculata Zone suggest ing a Barremian?-Aptian age for the for ma tions. Palynological data ex tracted led to iden ti fi ca tion of five palynofacies types based on the cat e go ries of Tyson (1995). These in di cate a mar ginal, prox i mal and dis tal shelf en vi ron ment of de po sition. The ob tained data from cal cu lated palaeo eco logi cal fac tors re vealed a grad ual sea level rise dur ing the de po si tion of these rock units, re sult ing in re place ment of the oxic/dysoxic Sarcheshmeh For ma tion by the dysoxic/anoxic Sanganeh Forma tion.

-Tintinnomorphs is a term used for the grouping of palynomorphs resembling organic remains of tintinnids, which are not always identifiable as true lorica, cysts or pouch, being able to correspond to other protozoans and may even represent others structures of distinct organisms, such as rotifers and turbellarians. This paper presents tintinnomorphs recorded in Holocene sediments of the well PSC-03, drilled in the Coastal Plain of Santa Catarina, southern Brazil. A total of six tintinnomorphs types is described and illustrated (SPHERO-1, ELELNO-14, ESABNO-6, HEXANO-2, RECTNO-1, AROBNO-3), some of which are compared with specimens previously reported from Quaternary deposits of southern Brazil, southern South America and other regions of the world. Although tintinomorphs are associated to marine palynomorphs, they cannot be used as a conclusive paleoenvironmental evidence due to uncertainties about their biological affinity.Key words: tintinnomorphs, tintinnids, Holocene, Coastal Plain of Santa Catarina.RESUMO -Tintinomorfos é um termo usado no agrupamento de palinomorfos assemelhados a restos orgânicos de tintinídeos, os quais nem sempre são passíveis de serem identificados como verdadeiras lóricas, cistos ou bolsas, podendo corresponder a outros protozoários e até representar outras estruturas de organismos distintos, como rotíferos e turbelários. Este trabalho apresenta tintinomorfos registrados em sedimentos do Holoceno do poço PSC-03, perfurado na Planície Costeira de Santa Catarina, sul do Brasil. Um total de seis tipos de tintinomorfos é descrito e ilustrado (SPHERO-1, ELELNO-14, ESABNO-6, HEXANO-2, RECTNO-1, AROBNO-3), alguns dos quais comparados a espécimes previamente registrados em depósitos quaternários do sul do Brasil, sul da América do Sul e outras regiões do mundo. Embora estejam associados a palinomorfos marinhos, tintinomorfos não podem ser utilizados como indicadores paleoambientais conclusivos devido às incertezas sobre sua afinidade biológica.

The Early Permian (Asselian) Mengkarang Formation of the western Jambi Province, Sumatra, is well exposed in the valley of the Merangin River. No consensus regarding the depositional environment of this section had been reached hitherto. This section preserves abundant evidence of a Permian forest, named the Merangin Fossil Forest herein, which grew at the foot of an active volcano, where pyroclastic flows often made way and destroyed the vegetation and where epiclastic reworked pyroclastics rapidly entombed the vegetation. The present assessment is based on a detailed study of three localities using multiple lines of evidence, including petrography, silica typing including hot cathodoluminescence microscopy and spectroscopy, and palynofacies analysis. In situ Agathoxylon was near enough to the volcanic slope to be buried rapidly, shallow enough to avoid extreme crystallization in the lumina, and far enough from the metamorphic centre not to get recrystallized. All these combined contingencies make this a most unique find that provides significant insights into a rarely studied palaeoecological setting from the Early Permian.
