“…Polkinghorne and Craig2 reviewed symptoms associated with 114 consecutive cases of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) and noted that 14 (9.6%) of them were asymptomatic including six in which the detachment involved the macula. The authors added that patients with a previous history of RRD or bilateral presentations were more likely to be asymptomatic.…”

“…Despite the lack of symptoms, such detachments can encroach on, or involve, the fovea or might progress during follow-up; thus, ARD can have substantial visual consequences. While ARD was reported to account for 9–14% of RRD which are diagnosed, the prevalence of this condition among myopic individuals is unknown 2 3…”

“…In addition, a systematic selection bias by any dropped-out patients on effect of preoperative symptom duration is highly unlikely. A share of asymptomatic patients is expected at about 5-10% [17] . Mean preoperative BCVA of 0.36 logMAR in macula-on RRDs was worse than to expect.…”

“…2 The exact mechanism for the induction of the flashing lights is less clear, although the description is quite characteristic being best seen under mesopic or scotopic conditions, often induced by ocular movements and typically restricted to the temporal field. 4 The purposes of this study were to (a) determine the incidence of retinal breaks in both the presenting and the fellow eyes and (b) to identify the associated risk factors of patients presenting with a symptomatic PVD. 4 The purposes of this study were to (a) determine the incidence of retinal breaks in both the presenting and the fellow eyes and (b) to identify the associated risk factors of patients presenting with a symptomatic PVD.…”
