Analysis of structure and properties of DVB–GMA based porous polymers

Abstract: Polar porous polymeric microspheres divinylbenzene-glycidyl methacrylate (DVB-GMA) were synthesized with a suspension method. Two kinds of polymers differing in chemical composition and physical properties were obtained. The molar ratios of monomers in the polymers were 50:50 and 75:25, respectively. Next, the prepared materials were chemically treated with phosphoric or sulphuric acid in order to additionally modify their surface. Consequently, the polymers gained acidic character and cation exchange properti… Show more

“…An analogical reaction of a diacrylate derivative of 4,4′-sulfanediyldiphenol gives a copolymer with an area equal to 103 m 2 /g [ 44 ]. In an equimolar reaction with DVB, 2,3-epoxypropyl methacrylate, an important polar monomer used in numerous syntheses, gives a product with a specific surface area of 143 m 2 /g [ 45 ]. For porous polymeric microspheres, it is also important that the porous structure be formed by pores of appropriate diameters.…”

“…These highly cross-linked, three-dimensional networks possess superior inherent porosity, excellent stability, pre-designable and tunable structures. They are a broad class of advanced materials that have gained remarkable attention [ 46 , 47 , 48 , 49 , 50 ]. Porous polymers are mainly obtained during the radical copolymerization with cross-linking with the presence of diluents.…”

“…They can react with various compounds that have functional groups such as amines [12,13] and hydroxyls. [1,14] There are several works describing magnetic polymeric resins based on glycidyl methacrylate (P(GMA)-M). [15][16][17][18] Among the techniques used to obtain them, suspension polymerization stands out.…”
