Analysis of spectral line intensities of TR3+ ions in crystal systems

Abstract: On the base of results from the analysis of known the Judd-Ofelt expression for the line intensities of TR3+ ion spectra, some simple and quite reliable determination methods are given for the luminescent branching ratio connected with the radiative 4Fs/2 + 4 1~ transition and the redistribution of the intensities between the bands in the absorption spectra 41gj2 + 14f3 [ S , L], J } of Nda+ ions in cubic crystals. I n these methods intensity parameters Q4/Q, = X are used as the working parameter. This paramet… Show more

“…Due to the analysis of spectral line intensit, ies by the modified Judd-Ofelt method (cf. [2,3]) the spectral quality parameter ( X ) for Bi4Ge301,-Nd3+ was found, and from the magnitude of this parameter the inter-manifold luminescence branching ratios (&) were determined for 4Fsp --+ 41a,2-1512 transitions. Using the measured spectroscopic data there were also calculated the cross-sections (a,) of all excited I T (of Bi4Ge30,-Nd3+ crystals) in our experiments.…”

“…Applying the results [5] which connect the factor X = SZ, / Q, with the inter-manifold branching ratio is,, we see that X (exp) = 0.5 describes properly the spectroscopic data [ 11, i.e. that satisfactory laser energetic characteristics may be received a t the frequency of the ,F3/2 --f 4111/2 transition.…”

“…The analytical dependencies of the branching ratios on the factor X are given in Refs. 49,50. They show that the quality factor of the studied crystal, unlike the other compounds shown in Table 4, is optimal: branching ratios of the transitions to 4 I 11/2 and 4 I 9/2 states are almost equal and close to 50% (see Table 5).…”

“…It is seen from this Table that coefficients 2 2 for radiative transitions from the 4 F 3/2 state are equal to zero, and, consequently, probabilities of these transitions depend only on ˝4 and ˝6. Therefore, the spectroscopic quality factor X = ˝4/˝6 was introduced for characterization of the considered transitions [49,50]. Values of this factor and life times of the 4 F 3/2 state in the crystal under study as well as in some other crystals are given in Table 4.…”
