Analysis of Smart Energy Systems and High Participation of V2G Impact for the Ecuadorian 100% Renewable Energy System by 2050

Abstract: This research presents a 100% renewable energy (RE) scenario by 2050 with a high share of electric vehicles on the grid (V2G) developed in Ecuador with the support of the EnergyPLAN analysis tool. Hour-by-hour data iterations were performed to determine solutions among various features, including energy storage, V2G connections that spanned the distribution system, and long-term evaluation. The high participation in V2G connections keeps the electrical system available; meanwhile, the high proportions of varia… Show more

“…The "blue" cluster, although very dispersed, is related to the topics of "sustainable development" and "sustainable energy system" [87,[102][103][104][105][106][107][108]. Meanwhile, the yellow cluster is related to publications on "smart energy system", "optimization" and "integrated energy system" [109][110][111][112][113][114][115][116][117]. The purple area emphasizes "renewable energies" and "renewable energy resources" [87,108,118-129]-Table 5.…”

“…The capability of some EVs to transfer energy via vehicle-to-grid (V2G), grid-to-vehicle (G2V), vehicle-to-home (V2H), and vehicle-to-building (V2B) make them an excellent resource during outages [ 9 ]. These functions can be achieved through a bidirectional flow of energy from EVs to electrical networks [ 10 ]. Through V2G, EVs can play a role in enhancing grid stability, balancing energy demand, and reducing reliance on energy storage systems [ 11 ].…”

“…Importantly, EVs possess a unique capability to address the issue of renewable energy intermittency [4,5]. When connected to a grid, EVs can serve as mobile energy storage units, acting as a buffer to absorb excess energy during periods of high electricity production and release it during low-production or peak demand periods [6]. This bidirectional energy flow, facilitated by intelligent vehicle-to-grid (V2G) systems, contributes to more balanced and stable grid operation [7].…”
