Analysis of shoreline changes in Vishakhapatnam coastal tract of Andhra Pradesh, India: an application of digital shoreline analysis system (DSAS)

Abstract: Coastline or Shoreline calculation is one of the important factors in the finding of coastal accretion and erosion and the study of coastal morphodynamic. Coastal erosion is a tentative hazard for communities especially in coastal areas as it is extremely susceptible to increasing coastal disasters. The study has been conducted along the coast of Vishakhapatnam district, Andhra Pradesh, India with the help of multi-temporal satellite images of 1991 2001, 2011 and 2018. The continuing coastal erosion and accret… Show more

“…Following the above concept, the distribution tail analysis in River Malaba sub-catchment is done for the high and low extreme river flow events. The weighted linear regression method recently applied by Baig et al [95] was used to determine the EVD parameters. To compute the EVD parameters in Eq.…”

“…In 2018, Emily et al [28] introduced a Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS) to calculate shoreline rate changes and forecast shoreline changes over the next 10 or 20 years. More recently, DSAS has been applied to account for shoreline rate changes [29][30][31]. Terrestrial measurements for shoreline demarcation due to tidal action, coastal structures, and littoral drift movements are recommended to achieve the most accurate results [29].…”

“…Las costas han presentado cambios geomórficos importantes en diversas áreas geográficas a nivel mundial donde se identifican perdida y ganancia de material sedimentario en las playas. Son diversos los estudios que presentan esta huella de la erosión que se ve acentuada en la pasada década (Thinh et al, 2019;Barreto et al, 2019;Baig et al, 2020). A nivel mundial, se ha identificado algún tipo de erosión costera que varía entre un 10% a 60% de la extensión de costa de la región (Luijendijk et al, 2018).…”
