Analysis of Shear Lag Effect in Twin-cell Box Girders

Abstract: For the twin-cell box girder, considering the difference of the shear lag between each cantilever plate, the shear lag warping displacement function of each wing of the box girder is defined. Based on the basis of the variation principle, the governing differential equations for considering the shear lag effect of twin-cell box girder are established. For a typical simply supported beam of twin-cell box girder, according to the three dimensional numerical methods used for plate and shell and the analytical sol… Show more

“…There have also been some changes in the cross-section configuration of box girders, such as the number of box chambers and the form of composite box sections. The traditional single-box single-cell section structure [1]- [3] is lightweight and has strong applicability, but the single-box twin-cell box girder bridge gradually appears in the public's view with the rapid increase of traffic flow [4]- [5]. The stress characteristics of the box girder are completely different from those of the single-box single-cell box girder.…”

“…The difference in shear lag coefficients for different web plates is not reflected in [30,31]. The authors of [32] present only finite element simulation results and do not offer specific displacement functions.…”
