The main objective of this study was to evaluate ex post facto resilience in persons with HIV infection and its relationship to socio-demographic and sexual behavior variables. Participants included 159 persons with HIV infection, of both sexes, aged between 19 and 55 years. Fifty-one percent of patients were infected through homosexual means. Sixty-seven percent were in the asymptomatic phase of infection. Assessment instruments used were the following: a questionnaire on socio-demographic data and sexual behavior and the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale. The evaluation was individual, voluntary, and anonymous. The results showed that 49.05% of patients had average resilience, 27.68% had high resilience, and 23.37% had low resilience. They found that heterosexual patients infected with HIV, diagnosed between 1985 and 1990 (23 and 28 years of diagnosis) and those who had disclosed their HIV status to more than 30 people, had greater resilience than homosexual patients, diagnosed between 1996 and 2000 (13 and 17 years of diagnosis) and those who had disclosed their HIV status to 1-5 people. Finally, resilience was not a predictor of sexual risk factor. It is suggested that health interventions take into account the resilience and psychological variables that may be beneficial to improve coping with the disease.

The sample was composed of 44 persons of both sexes between the ages of 23 and 67 who carried the virus and were being monitored by the Testing and Advisory Center (cta, acronym in Portuguese). We collected data using a sociodemographic questionnaire and a semi-structured interview. In general, the results indicated that these persons regard aids as a contagious disease, without cure and giving rise to many prejudices. La muestra estuvo compuesta por 44 sujetos de ambos sexos portadores del virus, con edades entre los 23 y los 67 años, quienes estaban en seguimiento en el Centro de Pruebas y Asesoramiento (cpa). Para la recolección de datos fueron utilizados un cuestionario sociodemográfico y una entrevista semiestructurada. En general, los resultados apuntaron a que el sida es considerado por ellos como una enfermedad contagiosa, sin cura y que da lugar a muchos prejuicios. Utilizou-se como instrumento questionários sobre dados sociodemográficos e comportamento sexual. Para análise dos dados utilizou-se o pacote estatístico SPSS versão 22. Identificou-se que as relações sexuais sob o efeito de substâncias psicoativas foi predominante entre homens. Em relação às diferenças dos comportamentos sexuais dos grupos de idades, neste estudo foi identificado que as pessoas da população em geral com idades de 18-41 anos em sua maioria tinham uma vida sexual ativa. Analysis of sexual risk behavior for hiv infection in adults in the general population AbstractThe aim of this study was to identify and compare sexual risk behavior and its relationship to gender, age and religion. The study included 596 adults from the general population: ages ranged from 18 to 73 years (M = 27.31 SD = 9.37), 59.2% were female, 76.2% had a single marital status and 83.2% declared themselves as heterosexual. Questionnaires on sociodemographic data and sexual behavior were used as the instrument. For data analysis the statistical package SPSS version 22 was used. It was found that sexual relations under the influence of psychoactive substances were prevalent among men. With regard to differences in sexual behavior of age groups, the study found that the majority of people in the general population aged 18-41 had an active sex life.
