Analysis of Serum Glutamic Pyruvic Transaminase and Serum Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase Levels in Tuberculosis Patients Who Are Undergoing Oat Treatment in Kendari City General Hospital, Kota Kendari, Indonesia

Abstract: In the treatment of tuberculosis (TB), the patient is generally directly given Anti Tuberculosis Drugs (Obat Anti Tuberculosis/OAT) without examining Serum Glutamic Pyruvic Transaminase (SGPT) and Serum Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase (SGOT) to see whether or not there is liver damage before treatment. Because of the side effects by OAT, it is important to know how the condition of the liver function of TB patients who consume OAT in Kendari City General Hospital (Rumah Sakit Umum Daerah/RSUD) Kota K… Show more

“…Hepatotoxicity due to anti-TB drugs causes extensive and permanent liver injury and can cause death if not detected in the initial stage. In addition to hepatotoxicity, anti-TB drugs can also cause cirrhosis, liver cancer, and lead to death [4]. The most severe side-effects leading to interruption of treatment were hepatotoxicity (11 %), skin rash (6 %), and joint pain (2 %) [5].…”

“…The obtained serum was used to examine biochemical parameters using a Microlab-300 semi-auto analyzer. The biochemical parameters studied were Total Serum Protein [18], Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN) [19], Serum Glutamic Pyruvic Transaminase (SGPT), Serum Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase (SGOT) [20], Serum Alkaline Phosphatase (SAP), Blood Sugar, Creatinine, Total Bilirubin.…”

“…Cleome brachycarpa significantly increased SGPT without disturbing ALP levels which should be further evaluated (51). Elevated levels of SGPT are usually reported with several administration drugs like NSAIDs and Anti-TB drugs (52,53). Thus, monitoring liver physiology remains recommended while using such drugs.…”
