This paper presents a detailed study on Sub-synchronous resonance in a Single machine connected to an infinite bus system by employing Bifurcation Theory. The synchronous machine model considered is a two-axis model, the turbine system is a six mass system. A comparative study of Sub-synchronous resonance for the two-axis synchronous machine models 1.1, 2.1 and 2.2 under constant excitation is presented in this paper. The effect of adding an exciter, power system stabilizer and Static Synchronous Series Compensator to the SMIB system, incorporated with a 2.2 synchronous machine model on the bifurcations of SSR is also investigated. The results obtained on replacing the fixed series compensation of the line by Static Synchronous Series Compensator resulted in the mitigation of Sub-synchronous Resonance. The results obtained for all the above-considered cases are compared with eigenvalue analysis and validated using transient analysis<strong>.</strong>

Nowadays, more and more electrical power is being distributed to customers by underground cables rather than overhead transmission lines due to their advantage of providing better protection in inclement weather. They also have significantly reduced electromagnetic field emission because of their copper shielding. But underground cables have larger capacitance than transmission lines per unit. Thus, ferroresonance is more likely to occur in distribution systems using underground cables. Moreover, soil humidity at a depth of one meter remains 100 percent for most of the year, a factor that risks the occurrence of water tree (WT) in cables. Consequently, both ferroresonance and WT are prone to occur in underground cable systems. The objective of this paper is to determine the relationship between ferroresonance and water tree. A test system was designed to simulate and analyze ferroresonance in a cable system caused by single-phase switch and water tree. Eight scenarios of water tree were compared in the simulation. There sponses of ferroresonance are presented in this paper and two common patterns are observed from the simulation results.

The ferroresonance or nonlinear resonance is a complex phenomenon, which may cause overvoltage in the electrical power system and endangers the system reliability and operation. The ability to predict the ferroresonance in the transformer depends on the accuracy of the transformer model used. In this paper, the effect of the new suggested ferroresonance limiter on the control of the chaotic ferroresonance and duration of chaotic transients in a potential transformer including nonlinear core losses is studied. To study the proposed ferroresonance limiter, a single phase 100 VA, 275 kV potential transformer is simulated. The magnetization characteristic of the potential transformer is modeled by a single-value two-term polynomial. The core losses are modeled by third order power series in terms of voltage and include core nonlinearities. The simulation results show that the ferroresonance limiter has a considerable effect on the ferroresonance overvoltage.
