This paper investigates the stability domain of ferroresonance in asymmetric three-phase three-leg transformers considering magnetic couplings and hysteresis effects of the core. A newly developed and accurate time-domain transformer model capable of simulating dynamic and transient operating conditions is implemented in this study. The model is based on electromagnetic circuit theory and considers dynamic hysteresis effects (major and minor loops) as well as core topology, asymmetry, and magnetic flux cross-coupling interactions of the core legs. Unbalanced switching with series and shunt capacitances, which is known to increase the risk of ferroresonance, is studied with the developed model. The validity of the model under ferroresonant conditions is confirmed by comparisons with extensive experimental data. The main contribution is a new analysis of (a)symmetric three-phase transformer ferroresonance behavior with an accurate core model capable of predicting ferroresonance modes.Index Terms-Ferroresonance, hysteresis, nonlinear and threephase transformer model.

This paper summarizes many of the considerations in the application of series capacitors on radial distribution circuits. The effects of series capacitors on receiving end voltages are illustrated via phasor diagrams and power-voltage characteristics. The unique voltage profile of the compensated distribution circuit is presented. Discussed are the various types of distribution circuit problems that series capacitors typically used to solve. Application guidelines are presented to help minimize oscillatory interactions with transformers and motors. The various protection schemes used in practical series capacitor banks are discussed. The information required to specify distribution series capacitor banks is outlined.

This paper presents the modeling and simulation of a subsynchronous resonance using Simscape in a multi-physical environment. It is shown that through this new modeling approach it is possible to visualize and better understand how the mechanical and electrical systems interact with each other during a subsynchronous resonance. The use of multi-physical domain simulation allows engineers and designers to comprehend sophisticated and complex systems with interactions among several physical domains. It also helps to find flaws and foresee potential interaction problems. A subsyncronous resonance case is used as an example to demonstrate the utility of the tool.
