Analysis of research output parameters: Density equalizing mapping and citation trend analysis

Abstract: Background: Burden of disease studies indicate major socio-economic burdens since many years. They should be used for the allocation of funding. However, imbalances are present in funding policies and therefore benchmarking becomes increasingly important in health services research.

“…A relatively small number of countries was responsible for the majority of research on PH. The top three ranking of US, UK, Germany in t1 is not a unique pattern of PH research [53, 54]. It is also visible in numerous other respiratory fields [47] as well as in cardiologic fields [55, 56], in infectious diseases [46, 57], or public health issues [58, 59].…”

“…As previously described in many scientific disciplines, bibliometric and scientometric analysis are relevant to monitor research, using various bibliometric tools and visualizing techniques such as density‐equalizing mapping (DEMP), that allow to analyze the quantity and quality of publications. The assessment of the quantity and quality of research in a specific field could improve its organization and promotion …”
