ObjectivesThe purpose of this study was to evaluate the quality of life (QOL) in postmenopausal members and non-members of the elderly support association in Borujen city, Iran.MethodsThis study was a cross-sectional descriptive study being applied to the participants were postmenopausal women of over 55 years. Thus, 40 postmenopausal members of the elderly support association of Borujen city and 40 non-members were randomly selected. The 36 item short-form health survey (SF-36), with the 4 psychological, social, physical-movement, and environmental domains, was completed. Data were analyzed using SPSS software.ResultsThe mean total score of QOL of member of the association was significantly greater than non-members. Student's t-test showed a significant relationship between QOL and membership of the association (P < 0.05). One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed that the mean QOL of postmenopausal women, according to membership and marital status (P < 0.01), housing (P < 0.01), and underlying disease (P < 0.01), was statistically significant.ConclusionsAccording to the results, supportive measures, such as increasing the participation of the elderly in public life through proper preparations to join them and membership in peer groups such as support associations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) can be greatly effective in improving QOL. The results showed that the QOL of the participants was at a moderate level and membership in support associations for the elderly was effected on the QOL in postmenopausal women. Moreover, considering the importance of the elderly in the community.

8Recibido en agosto 24 de 2015 Aceptado en febrero 05 de 2016 RESUMENLa Menopause Rating Scale (MRS) se compone teóricamente de tres dimensiones que evalúan síntomas somáticos, emocionales y urogenitales relacionados con la menopausia. La utilidad de las escalas varía según las características poblacionales y no se cuenta con investigaciones que corroboren estas dimensiones en población indígena. El objetivo fue evaluar la utilidad de las dimensiones y confiabilidad de MRS en indígenas colombianas. Se realizó análisis del patrón de respuesta de MRS en 914 mujeres indígenas, 507 posmenopáusicas y 407 premenopáusicas, entre 40-60 años, media 50,3 años (DE=5,9). Se estimó alfa de Cronbach para las dimensiones originales y para las que emergieron en el análisis factorial mediante el método de máxima verosimilitud y rotación oblicua promax. MRS mostró alfa de Cronbach: 0,86; la dimensión somática 0,63, la psicológica 0,75 y la urogenital 0,84. La puntuación fue significativamente superior en posmenopáusicas que premenopausia 14,4 (DE=6,4) vs. 8,4 (DE=5,9) p<0,001. El análisis de factores identificó dos factores; el primero que dio cuenta del 39,9% de la varianza (ítem 1,7,8,9,10,11) y el segundo del 14,2% (ítem 2,3,4,5,6). La primera dimensión tuvo alfa de Cronbach 0,86; y la segunda 0,81. MRS presentó alta consistencia interna, adecuada validez nomológica y dos dimensiones. zdravotnických studií, katedra porodní asistence a zdravotně sociální práce, Pardubice, Česká republikaThe objective of the research study was to assess the possible use of a Czech standardized version of the Menopause Rating Scale questionnaire in electronic form, concerning the quality of women's life in the period affected by menopause.The quantitative survey was conducted in 2015 on a sample of 364 respondents within the age range from 45 to 60 years with present oestrogen deficiency symptoms. The respondents filled in the Menopause Rating Scale questionnaire in their own social environment using an online form based on previous education. The data was then subjected to statistical evaluation; results were compared with the results of data collected in the form of a printed questionnaire.Most frequently, the respondents reported a minor intensity of difficulties or absence of some symptoms. The respondents encountered the least distinctive difficulties in the urogenital domain. Based on the resulting values of the total score in the partial domains, we can state that the quality of women's life was only affected by the present estrogen deficiency to a minor extent. The results correspond with those of researches utilizing the form of a printed questionnaire.One of the tasks of the clinical practice and preventive measures in the area of gynaecology and obstetrics is to prepare women to changes related to menopause and to provide them with adequate information. Medical staff must have such an evaluation instrument available that can be used for evaluating potential changes in this period and then help the women adequately. The Menopause Rating Scale is such a tool. The electronic form of this instrument appears to be a suitable form for initiating communication between the client and medical staff.
