Analysis of PVC blends by three‐dimensional solubility parameters

Abstract: An investigation was undertaken on the application of the three-dimensional solubility parameter method to predict miscibility of polyblends. The three-dimensional method attempts to account for the combined effects of dispersion, polar, and hydrogen bonding interactions between molecules. This study focused mainly on the miscibility of blends of poly(viny1 chloride) (PVC) with homopolymers as well as with copolymers. The three components of solubility parameters were calculated from the group contributions of… Show more

“…The corresponding B 23 values were 2.4 and 1.5 cal/cm 3 , respectively. This agreed with prior conclusions43, 44 that the former system was less compatible than the latter. Because the solubility parameter of NBR34 was closer to that of PVC than that of NBR28, the order of compatibility also agreed with the prediction of the solubility parameter method.…”
