Analysis of pressure difference changes in respirator filters while dusting

Abstract: Objective is to determine the relation between pressure difference of a filter and parameters of a filtering layer to lengthen the protection period. The study involved elements of system analysis and mathematical modeling. Basic statements of the theory of nonstationary filtration and aerohydrodynamics were applied to develop a dust-loaded filter model. Dependence of pressure difference in a filter upon certain changes in packaging density of dust-loaded fibers has been determined; the dependence makes it pos… Show more

“…Aspirator 6 was used to take air with the rate of 95 l/min from the under-mask area of a dummy; further, the air was sent to spectrophotometer Selmi С-115Е (7) to determine its concentration and penetration coefficient of a half-mask. As a result of device 8 operation, special software was used to calculated coefficient of protection and suction as a ratio of test-aerosol concentrations before and after CIPD application [14,16].…”

“…Due to the required movements, talks, and unmasking, some gaps arise behind obturation line deteriorating protection of employees against harmful matters getting into their respiratory organs [1]. Within the last, year respiratory protection became a very important and necessary condition of health care of users, thus tightness test of fi ltering half-masks of respirators moves to the forefront [2,3].…”

“…As we can see, the consequences of coal dust getting into the workers' lungs are rather drastic anyway. That is confi rmed by the number of studies as for the occurrence of lung diseases caused by entrance of hazardous aerosols [1][2][3][4][5]. For instance, paper [2] indicates that within the period of 1970-2004, 69,277 miners died in the USA while in China up to 5,000 cases of respiratory diseases had been re-corded annually up to 2010.…”
