Analysis of population health projects funded by Joint Fund of the National Natural Science Foundation of China between 2015 and 2019

Abstract: Background: The National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) is a vital source of support for scientific research in China and abroad. Among the 18 categories programs managed by the NSFC, the Joint Fund, which looks to develop innovation in basic Chinese research, has drawn particular interest from scientists and researchers. This study set out to review the distribution of funding from the Joint Fund in recent years to provide potential applicants with a useful point of reference. Methods: Guidebooks a… Show more

“…As a developing country, China has been increasing its publication volume significantly since 2015, and the total number of articles quickly exceeded that of other countries. This may be due to the large population base, the large number of H. pylori infections and GC patients, and the popularization of endoscopic biopsy technology ( Fan et al, 2021 ; Wang et al, 2022 ), as well as the rapid growth of national GDP and increased investment in scientific research ( Lei et al, 2020 ; Zhou et al, 2021 ). However, although China is an important representative with respect to investment in this field, China’s betweenness centrality was not outstanding enough, indicating that Chinese researchers need to improve the quality of their research.…”

“…The selenium NPs obtained from plant resource Capparis decidua have proven to have antibacterial activity against E. coli and Lactobacillus species. While extraction of NPs by conventional chemical methods seems to be hazardous to the environment [ 22 ], ecosystem-friendly safe biosynthesis is the best way forward [ 23 ]. Silver NPs synthesized from Actinobacteria obtained from the marine ecosystem were proven to be effective in periodontitis.…”

“…The Joint Funds were established by the NSFC with local governments, scientific research institutions, and enterprises to address the key scientific issues during social development. The Joint Funds fully reflect the role of NSFC in guiding and integrating social resources and basic research, promoting the cooperation of relevant departments, industries, regions, universities, and research institutions [3]. Additionally, the Joint Funds cultivate scientific and technological talents, which support China's innovative development in various research fields.…”
