The antiplane shear deformation problem of two edge-bonded dissimilar isotropic wedges is considered. In the case when the sum of the two apex angles is equal to 2π, the problem reduces to that of two edge-bonded dissimilar materials with an interfacial crack subjected to concentrated antiplane shear tractions on the crack faces. An explicit expression is extracted for the stress intensity factor at the crack tip. In the special cases of different combinations of the apex angles, the obtained expression for the stress intensity factor may be simplified and relations of a simpler form are given for the stress intensity factor. It is shown that the stress intensity factor is dependent on the material properties as well as the geometry and loading. However, in special cases of equal apex angles as well as the case of similar materials the dependency of the stress intensity factor on the material properties disappears.

Communicated by W. SprößigAntiplane stress state of a piecewise-homogeneous elastic body with a semi-infinite crack along the interface is considered. The longitudinal displacements along one of the crack edges on a finite interval, adjacent to the crack tip, are known. Shear stresses are applied to the body along the crack edges and at infinity. The problem reduces to a Riemann-Hilbert boundary-value matrix problem with a piecewise-constant coefficient for a complex potential in the class of symmetric functions. The complex potential is found explicitly using a Gaussian hypergeometric function. The stress state of the body close to the singular points is investigated. The stress intensity factors are determined.

A cracked orthotropic elastic strip of finite width is analyzed under antiplane shear loading. For four frequently encountered constraint edges, i.e. free-free, clamped-clamped, free-clamped, or clamped-free edges, the Fourier series method is used to reduce triple series equations, and then to a mixed boundary value problem associated with a mode-III crack for each case to a singular integral equation. Closed-form solutions are derived for the resulting equations, and formulae for calculating stress intensity factors are obtained for an internal crack and edge cracks subjected to arbitrarily varying loading. Numerical results of the stress intensity factors for an eccentric, central, and edge crack are shown graphically for the case of uniform loading at the crack faces. Obtained formulae for determining stress intensity factors can be taken as a benchmark of numerical evaluations. The derived results are also applicable to an isotropic elastic strip with an anti-plane shear crack normal to the edges.
