Wind farms are power generation complexes with nonlinear characteristics. It is well-known that such facilities are potential sources of harmonic current injection upon the network. In this sense, in cases where limits established by the regulatory agencies are exceeded, filtering strategies must be provided. Under these circumstances, passive filters are a widely employed solution for bringing harmonic distortion levels to within standard limits. However, it is recognized that the connection of passive filters can influence the characteristics of the system, causing resonances and even the intensification of harmonic distortions at the connection point between the wind farm and the external network. Therefore, this paper aims at evaluating the impacts of tuned harmonic filters on grid resonance characteristics and harmonic distortion levels from a wind farm. In this way, based on measurements of currents from an existing Brazilian wind power plant, computational studies are performed in accordance with the guidelines given by Brazilian regulations.

A renewed interest in phase frame analysis of distribution systems has surfaced in recent literature due to rapid expansion of grid-integrated distributed generation and non-linear loads, whose grid imbalance-increasing effects require more detailed analysis and modeling of distribution systems for their proper assessment. In this paper, under motivation of such recent usage of phase frame components, we propose analytical equations for N-phase neutral-equipped line admittance matrix under transposition assumption. By using the proposed equations, we evaluate precision losses caused by using the transposition assumption for modeling three-phase four-wire distribution lines. Moreover, differently from previous works, we validate the transposition assumption and the admittance matrix values obtained for various combinations of cable type and line geometry. A relevant reason for analyzing transposition assumption in more detail is the fact that it may be useful in distribution system computations, due to its advantageous decoupling of symmetrical components. In this sense, the present work provides additional discussion and illustrative evaluations of the line transposition assumption, which may be useful for analyzing its applicability under different circumstances.

Three-phase inverters are widely used in the smart grid to integrate renewable energy resources. When the inverters are used to feed the unbalanced three-phase loads, the threephase four-wire inverters are usually required to provide the current path for neutral currents. However, unbalanced loads will cause undesirable second-order ripples on DC bus. Conventional three-phase four-wire inverters with neutral legs can not address this challenge. Bulky capacitors or extra active circuits are still required to reduce the ripples. This inevitably leads to increased size and cost of the system. Although SiC-based converters have the advantage of achieving high power density, the DCbus capacitance can not be reduced by simply replacing Si IGBTs with SiC MOSFETs. In this paper, a new topology of SiC-based three-phase four-wire inverters is proposed to reduce the DC-bus ripples without adding any additional hardware components. With the reduction of DC-bus ripples, the DC-bus capacitance can be reduced to achieve high power density. The equivalent circuit is analyzed and the control strategy for the proposed topology is designed. The proposed topology is built in Matlab/Simulink and simulation results are presented to verify the proposed topology.
