Analysis of Molecular Changes Induced By Mineral Trioxide Aggregate On sPLA2

Abstract: The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of MTA on the structure and enzymatic activity of sPLA2 in order to provide subsidies for improvement in the formulation of the product. MTA powder was incubated for 60 min in the presence of sPLA2 and was analyzed by chromatography, electrospray mass (ESI-MS) and small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS). It was find that the elution profile, retention time, and fragmentation of sPLA2 were altered after treatment with MTA. Calcium was the MTA component that most ampl… Show more

“…MTA consists of fine trioxide powder (tricalcium oxide, silicon oxide, bismuth oxide) which sets in the presence of moisture and hydrophilic particles (tricalcium silicate, tricalcium aluminum) [5] . MTA material was first described as hydrophilic fine powder, mainly consisting of calcium and phosphorus ion and bismuth oxide was added into it to provide a higher radio-opacity than dentine [6] .…”

“…Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) was more recently introduced as an alternative dental pulp capping material which consists of a powder of tricalcium oxide, silicon oxide, and bismuth oxide. Other particles that are hydrophilic in nature as tricalcium silicate and tricalcium aluminate are also present [6], [7]. Photobiomodulation (PBM) has been reported to suppress inflammation and biostimulate tissues to improve tissue repair mechanisms [8].…”

“…It consists of a powder of fine trioxides (tricalcium oxide, silicon oxide, bismuth oxide) and other hydrophilic particles (tricalcium silicate, tricalcium aluminate, responsible for the chemical and physical properties of this aggregate), which hardens in the presence of humidity. [1][2][3][4][5] The hydration of the powder results in the formation of a colloidal gel with pH 12.5, which solidifies in a structure in about 3 to 4 hours. [6][7][8][9] In the past 10 years, the MTA found its application in the field of dentistry with specific fit within the conservative and endodontic treatments.…”
