Mount Lawu was recorded to have erupted last on November 28, 1885, releasing volcanic material including magnetic minerals. The material settles in various places carried by the wind and river flow. The movement of wind and river flow is very influential in the process of transporting volcanic material. Large material directly falls around the mountain, usually in the form of large rocks, and undergoes physical and chemical weathering. Small-sized materials such as volcanic ash and small-mass rocks will be carried by the wind and river flows in all directions. However, the displacement does not remove the magnetic minerals contained in it. Magnetic minerals can be evaluated by the method of rock magnetism using MS. Bartington MS2 device with a dependent MS2B sensor by mass. From this tool, the low field susceptibility values in the range of 1467.5 x 10−8 m3/Kg – 5262.1 x 10−8 m3/Kg and high field susceptibility in the range of 1467,1 x 10−8 m3/Kg. The volcanic material of Mount Lawu belongs to the Ilmenite (FeTiO3) group and belongs to the group of weak magnetism. Then further review the frequency-dependent susceptibility (%) to see the magnetic domains contained in the sample. From the magnetic susceptibility data, the percentage of frequency-dependent susceptibility (%) is less than 2%. From these data, the sample is not included in the superparamagnetic (SP) and in general the sample is classified as a multidomain item (MD).

Magnesite (MgCO3) is a valuable mineral with wide industrial applications; thus, geochemical familiarity and deposit quality are critical for making the best use of these resources. Tanzania is reported to have magnesite deposits in at least 12 different locations; however, four of these were chosen at random for study. This study aimed to examine the mineralogical and elemental composition of rock samples from Chambogo (KL), Muriatata (AR), Lobolosoiti (MN), and Chikaza (DM) using x-ray fluorescence (XRF) and powder x-ray diffraction (XRD). XRF examination revealed that sample KL, AR, MN, and DM, respectively, contain 45.21%, 46.06%, 43.21%, and 43.21% of magnesium oxide. Besides MgO, all samples contained SiO2, Fe2O3, Al2O3, CaO and several trace elements as impurities, with only calcium oxide, iron, arsenic and chromium identified as impurities of concern. However, XRD analysis indicated magnesite as the major mineral phase in samples KL, AR, MN, and DM, with percentage concentrations of 65.2, 68.14, 63.87, and 68, respectively. In all samples, strong peaks at 2θ~ 33o, 43o, 54o and 55o, confirmed the crystalline nature of magnesite. Calcination of these samples however, resulted in peak shift and phase change, with main diffraction peaks generated at 2θ~ 36.9o, 42.9o and 62.3o, confirming the formation of crystalline MgO. Despite considerable contamination levels of CaO, iron, chromium, and arsenic in the samples, all samples had enough magnesite to be mined for industrial use.

Silica (SiO 2 ) is a material that has become famous because of its profound benefits in various fields. Its presence is abundant in nature and is associated with other compounds so that silica can be produced by extraction. This study aims to characterize silica based on coastal sand from Sulawesi and Sumatra as the base material for silicon carbide (SiC). Extraction was carried out using the alkali fusion method. The tests used were X-Ray Fluorescence, Fourier Transform Infrared, and X-Ray Diffraction to determine the elemental composition of Si, functional groups, and silica crystal structure. The results show that the beach sand from Sumatra has more silica content than the beach sand from Sulawesi. Silica has silanol (Si-OH) and siloxane (Si-O-Si) functional groups. The crystal structure obtained is hexagonal. Thus, beach sand from Sumatera can be used as a source of silica as the base material for SiC.
