Analysis of major elements in pigmented melanocytic chicken skin using laser‐induced breakdown spectroscopy

Abstract: The concentration difference of major elements in melanocytic skin with respect to pigmentation level is analysed by laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) to investigate the applicability of LIBS as an in situ feedback tool for selective and complete laser removal of melanocytic skin tissue like nevus. The skin of black silkie chicken which had a characteristic darkly pigmented perifollicular skin surrounded by lightly pigmented extrafollicular skin was used as the sample. The results showed higher LIBS … Show more

“…In addition, a molecular line of carbon to nitrogen bonding (CN) was observed in the recorded spectra. The observed lines were in agreement with the lines described in literature [26][27][28][29][30][31][32][33][34]. Later on, based on the 22 chosen peak intensities, 231 intensity ratios were generated using permutation…”

“…Such feedback mechanisms can rely on photoacoustic, spectroscopic or OCT-based measurements [16][17][18][19][20][21]. Hereby, the potential spectroscopic methods include diffuse reflectance, laser-induced breakdown, Raman, and fluorescence spectroscopy [22][23][24][25][26]. Among them, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS), as a powerful analytical technique, seems to be most promising to us since it enables using the same laser as during the cutting process.…”

“…Laser‐induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) and Raman spectroscopy are two famous spectral techniques because of their advantages in rapid, online, and in‐site detection. [ 1,2 ] As a new elemental detection method, LIBS has been used in identification of many kinds of substance with chemometrics, for instance, biomedical samples, [ 3–5 ] forensic evidences, [ 6–9 ] explosives, [ 10 ] plants, [ 11 ] alloy, [ 12 ] ore, [ 13 ] nutrient food, [ 14–16 ] and pathogenic microorganisms. [ 17 ] However, for substances with the same elemental composition, the feature line wavelengths are always similar.…”
