The desire of humans to explore the universe is becoming stronger and stronger, which promotes the rapid development of aerospace technology and advanced aircrafts for the past few years. 1,2 A series of burgeoning high-technologies and great ideas, such as immigration to Mars and the star-link plan of the Space X company, are also demanding for more advanced aircrafts. Great aircrafts need great components. Thereinto, the radome is a crucial aerodynamic structural component, which is expected to transmit electromagnetic signals with minimum attenuation and also prevents radar communication systems from failure in harsh service environments. [3][4][5][6] Of the materials being considered for radome application, porous silicon nitride (Si 3 N 4 ) ceramic is one of the most promising candidates, because of its low density, low thermal conductivity, low thermal expansion coefficient, good thermal shock resistance, and great dielectric properties. 7-10 Unfortunately, porous Si 3 N 4 ceramic tend to absorb moisture from the atmosphere due to capillary force and high porosity. That will reduce its thermal insulation as well as deteriorate its dielectric properties. Analysis and characterization of the natural iron sand of the Bah Bolon River in Simalungun Regency has been carried out. Separation of iron sand is carried out using a 500 Gauss permanent magnet 10 times. After that, the iron sand is washed using Aquades 5 times so that the iron sand is clean of impurities and dried using an oven at a temperature of 85o C for 24 hours. Iron sand samples with a size of 250 mesh (74µm) were then characterized using SEM-EDS and VSM. Measurements using SEM-EDS show that the Sungai Bah Bolon iron sand contains 66.9% Fe, 24.3% O, and 8.8% other elements. Meanwhile, the hysteresis curve from the results of measurements with a Vibrating Sample Magnometer (VSM) shows that the Bah Bolon River iron sand has magnetic saturation (Ms), magnetic remanance (Mr), and coercivity (Hc) properties of 57.70 emu/g respectively 7.09 emu/g, and 129.93 Oe.

The increasing demand for lightweight material specifications has forced researchers to develop lightweight materials that are inexpensive, can be produced on a large scale, and are environmentally friendly. One solution that has been developed is an aluminum composite reinforced with sea sand. Indonesia has the second longest coastline in the world, which means that the country is rich in maritime resources, one of which is sea sand. The ceramic contents of SiO2, SiC, and Al2O3allow sea sand to be used as a reinforcement in aluminum composites for engineering purposes. The most effective manufacturing method of AA6061–sea sand composites is stir casting, but the homogeneity and distribution of particles are the main disadvantages of the stir casting method. Various factors affect particle distribution and homogeneity, one of which is the flow during the stirring process. The increase in turbulent flow in the stirring process affects the homogeneity and distribution of the particles. One way to create a turbulent flow when stirring is to add baffles. This paper examines the effect of adding baffles during the stir casting process on the mechanical properties of AA6061–sea sand composites. The mechanical properties of AA6061–sea sand composites were characterized using the Brinell hardness test according to ASTM E-10. The test results show that the addition of baffles during the stir casting process decreases the hardness of the AA6061–sea sand composites due to the turbulent flow that occurs.
