Analysis of Lower Extremity Muscle Strength by the Classification of the Event Characteristics in Secondary School Athletes

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to strength of lower extremity by the event characteristics of secondary school athletes. The subjects were 123 male elite athletes (7 sports) from Jeju middle school (7 schools, 65 students) and high school (11 schools, 58 students), and measured the subject s height, weight and Maximal Voluntary Contraction (MVC) and Rate of Force Development (RFD). As a result, first, there was a positive correlation between MVC and RFD. Second, there was a statistically significant difference in the strength levels of similar event sports at the MVC. Third, the anaerobic event showed statistically significant higher MVC than the aerobic event. Fourth, the higher the MVC than the average level, the more significant effect on the anaerobic event. At present, athletic performance is the most important indicator for predicting a athletes s performance. Understanding the characteristics of each event and applying appropriate training programs are essential elements for systematically nurturing student athletes and maximizing future development.
