Analysis of Land Use Zoning Regulations and Green Coverage Ratio

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to make clear the relation between Land Use Zoning Regulations and Green Coverage Ratio in Japanese urbanized city. It is probable that Land Use Zoning Regulations has an influence on Green Coverage Ratio for its restrictions to building form and use. However, this relation is not clear. For creating and protecting green area in urbanized city, it is important to consider the influence brought by land use zones. The study area was selected in Sakai City, Osaka, Japan. Green Coverag… Show more

“…The crude open space consists of many types of open spaces, and specific open-space ratios are defined. Examples include green open-space ratio [24,25], green coverage ratio [26,27], public open-space ratio [28,29], space ratio [30], park ratio [31,32], water surface ratio [33,34], river ratio [35,36], and road ratio [37,38]. These open-space ratio functions are easily computed using the crude open-space ratio functions formulated in the previous section.…”

“…Generally, the indicators used to describe street scale include the street length, total street width, vehicle lanes' width, pedestrian sidewalk width, and ratio of width to height. We select one index of green coverage rate for street greening [51]. The street-facing interface is the vertical interface of street space and also an important part of the street.…”

“…This is because albedo plays an important role in UHI and may be controlled more easily than the other factors and because the ratio of green coverage, which relates to impervious urban surfaces, has already been discussed in a previous study (Sotoma et al, 2003). Researchers have dealt with albedo from various perspectives (Aida,1982;Brest et al, 1987;Kyakuno et al, 2002;Izumi et al, 2000;Nakagawa et al, 1992;Nakagawa et al, 1995;Nakagawa et al, 1996;Small et al, 2000;Zhao et al, 2000).…”
