Analysis of IMF Orientation and Pc5 Power During St. Patrick Geomagnetic Storm on 17 March 2015

Abstract: Solar storms have a hazardous effect on the Earth, one of the most powerful is Coronal Mass Ejection (CME). St. Patrick geomagnetic storm is a severe geomagnetic storm which is caused by partial halo CME. Propagation of CME at interplanetary space is detected by solar wind parameters by speed and magnetic field. Interplanetary Magnetic Field (IMF) has orientation to determine the shift of solar wind particle. IMF orientation can be classified by IMF cone angle and IMF clock angle. Both can be used as an indica… Show more

“…Therefore, the simulation results can be read by comparing the trendline and the time of the shock. WSA-ENLIL is a simulation developed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to predict the condition of the magnetosphere that can cause geomagnetic storms due to CME in 1 to 4 days [38]. The simulation of WSA-ENLIL can be accessed on (https://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/enlil/).…”

“…Several global MHD simulations have been developed, such as the Lyon-Fedder-Mobarry (LFM) scheme [9], Open Geospace General Circulation Model (Open GGCM) [10], Block-Adaptive-Tree-Solarwind-Roe-Upwind-Scheme (BAT-R-US) [11,12], Grand Unified Magnetosphere Ionosphere Coupling Simulation (GUMICS) [13], Tsyganenko Magnetic Field Model and GEOPACK [14], Wang-Sheeley-Arge-Enlil (WSA-Enlil) developed by SWPC NOAA [38]. This program's simulations can be accessed at the Community Coordinated Modeling Center (CCMC) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).…”
