Abstract:In Li-Ion batteries, the graphite anode undergoes chromatic changes from grey (unlithiated graphite) to blue (LiC18) to red (LiC12) to gold (LiC6) during lithiation.1 When charged with high current rates, lithiation gradients are observable due to mass transport limitations within the anode.2 Due to high lithiation degrees at the surface, the anode potential decreases locally and the possibility of Li deposition is increased.3

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
