Analysis of Granules Behavior in Continuous Drum Mixer by DEM

Abstract: Fig. 1. Principle of the simulation model. model for granulation should be discussed. There are two models for the simulation of granulation process. One is trace movement of all particles. The other is trace movement of granulated particle only as one particle. The former might be better to analyze granulation mechanism. However, it is not realistic to simulate them because particles traced are enormous and it would take a long time to simulate the behavior of granules. Therefore the latter is adopted in this… Show more

“…We took commonly-used values of 0.65 for friction coefficient, 2.2 for Young's modulus and 0.3 for Poisson's ratio; 8) whereas, we had rolling friction coefficient be a fitting parameter to express gramule's plasticity and stickiness [ Table 1]. …”

“…DEM has been also used for unit processes in iron ore sintering: Ramos et al 7) used it to describe sinter bed shinking during sintering; Soda et al 8) applied it to granulation process. Both of them succeeded to show visual understandings on the phenomena.…”

“…In order to improve blast furnace performance for higher productivity and low fuel rate, some high grade concentrates are blended into sinter mixture to increase iron grade of sinter product, 1,2) such as specularite concentrates from Brazil. However, specularite concentrates possess the adverse granulation performance due to inappropriate particle size distribution and low specific surface areas, poor wettability and low fusibility characteristics.…”
