Analysis of Gas Turbine Operation before and after Major Maintenance

Vedran Mrzljak,
Nikola Anđelić,
Ivan Lorencin
et al.

Abstract: This paper presents an analysis of the gas turbine real process (with all losses included) before and after a major maintenance. The analysis of both gas turbine operating regimes is based on data measured during its exploitation. Contrary to authors’ expectations, the major maintenance process did not result either in any decrease in losses or increase in efficiencies for the majority of the gas turbine components. However, the major maintenance influenced positively the gas turbine combustion chambers (reduc… Show more

“…A part of mechanical power produced in the gas turbine is used for the MTC and RTC drive (turbo-compressors are mechanical power consumers), while the remaining mechanical power produced in the turbine (useful power) is applied for the EG drive. The principle of mechanical power distribution is the same for closed-cycle and open-cycle gas turbines which drives any power consumer [40,41].…”

“…Nigeria has been incredibly fortunate to have natural resources (gas) but has not utilized these resources for its energy supply [4]. Gas turbines nowadays are essential components of combined power plants, Gas turbine process, and exhaust gas parameters play a major role in both the operation of the combined power plant's steam component and all of its constituents [5]. With Twenty (23) gasfired plants out of thirty generation stations in Nigeria, only 25% of the electricity generated is delivered to the end user [6].…”
