Experimental and theoretical studies have established that the transition to turbulent from laminar flow (promoting the drag coefficient) may be prevented/delayed by the fluid suction from the boundary layer to the plate. Due to such an active role of laminar flow control in plummeting drag ensuing improvement in the power of vehicle by a considerable amount, this work aims to analyze periodic suction impact on 3-dimensional unsteady oscillatory flow of Jeffery fluid flowing laminarly along an infinite porous plate lying horizontally with transverse sinusoidal suction. The free stream velocity swings to and fro about a constant mean in time. The flow becomes 3-dimensional because of transverse direction of the periodic suction velocity. Approximate solutions are attained for velocity components, shear stresses and pressure. On these physical quantities the impact of dimensionless parameters budding in the problem under consideration are graphically visualized and analytically conferred. The x-component of velocity is noted to be increasing for rising values of 𝑅𝑒 which causes the decay in boundary layer thickness. Further, the velocity component 𝑢 is found to be reducing with increasing values of 𝛽 because of the fluid thickening. It is also observed that an enhancement in 𝑅𝑒 causes to reduce the pressure. On the contrary, 𝛼 causes to rise the pressure. The shear stress along the z-direction is augmented by increasing the suction parameter. The shear stress in the z-direction also increases by increasing the elastic parameter because of the thickening of the fluid. The results of present study agree to published work in limiting sense. This study is advantageous in manufacturing and designing LFCS (laminar flow control system) to improve the vehicle power necessity.

The present study delivers the mathematical model and theoretical analysis of a three-dimensional flow in a free convection for an electrically conducting incompressible second-grade fluid through a very high porous medium circumscribed by an infinite vertical porous plate subject to a constant suction. A uniform magnetic field along the normal to the surface of plate is applied. Periodic permeability for the medium is assumed, while velocity of free stream is taken to be uniform. Analytic expressions are presented for velocity and temperature fields, pressure, and skin friction components by perturbation technique. The impacts on these physical quantities by the physical parameters existing in the model are discussed and envisioned graphically. It is interesting to note that elastic and permeability parameters are able to control the skin friction along the main flow direction, magnetic field to reduce the pressure, and Reynolds number to control the thermal boundary layer thickness. It is also noted that temperature distribution does not depend upon permeability parameter.

This study addresses the development of a mathematical model and theoretical analysis of a free convective three-directional flow of an incompressible second-grade fluid through a highly porous medium bounded by a vertical infinite plate in slip flow regime subjected to a constant suction. The free stream velocity is rumored to be constant while permeability of the medium is presumed to be periodic. It is well known that the assumption of either time dependent or constant permeability of a porous medium leads to two-dimensional flows, of course, the flow comes to be three-dimensional due to variation in permeability of the porous medium. Approximate solutions of velocity and temperature fields, heat flux and skin friction are established by applying the regular perturbation technique. Results are discussed and visualized graphically in the light of physical parameters emerging in the mathematical model of the physical phenomenon with carefully selected and viable data. The significance of current study reveals that presence of slip parameter reduces the thickness of boundary layer causing the enhancement in the main flow velocity component. With increasing permeability parameter fluid velocity is decelerated whereas it is accelerated with increasing Grashof number. With increasing non-Newtonian parameter, a similar response is noted as for the permeability parameter. It is also noted that permeability parameter, Prandtl number, Grashof number and elastic parameter provide mechanism to control the skin friction. In addition, Reynolds number also plays a vital role to control the skin friction. Furthermore, Reynolds number significantly boosts the coefficient of heat transfer, and Prandtl number causes to reduce the thermal boundary layer thickness.
