Analysis of factors critical to construction project success in Malaysia

Abstract: Purpose-This paper attempts to study the principal factors that are critical to the success of a construction project in Malaysia, and determine their relative importance as perceived by different respondents. The findings of this study will provide the researcher upto-date information in formulating appropriate strategies to address the challenges brought about by human-related issue. This paper will only discuss the first part of the ongoing research based on the pilot survey carried out. Design/methodology/… Show more

“…Human-related factors are variables with growing importance in the literature (Yong, Mustaffa 2012). Based on the findings and discussions of the Yong and Mustaffa (2012) study, it is recommended that more emphasis should be given on improving the human-related factors.…”

“…The changes for the remaining four parameters, 2 (Time), 3 (Cost), 4 (Quality), and 7 (Risk) were not statistically significant perhaps because client representatives had initially valued them high and their opinion did not change. Project management success is usually measured against the widespread and traditional measures of time, cost and quality (Yong, Mustaffa 2012).…”

“…*The construction industry embodies one of the most significant sectors and is measured as one of the key contributors to the socio-economic growing of a country (Elawi et al, 2016). Throughout the last decade, and owing to the importance of construction, numerous studies have studied factors that support successful completion of construction projects, particularly those factors that have more impact on project success than others (Tabish and Jha, 2012;Ihuah et al, 2014;Kandelousi et al, 2011;Gunduz and Yahya, 2018;Gudienė et al, 2013a;2013b;Ogwueleka, 2011;Yong and Mustaffa, 2012;Cserháti and Szabó, 2014). The construction industry provides a greater challenge to retain its scheduled time, budgetary cost, and appropriate quality (Elawi et al, 2016).…”

“…Hence, the delay in payments to contractors has been identified as one important project risks [16,20], and is vital for the timely implementation of construction works [29]. However, research on the influence of delays in construction projects mostly focused on the investigation of factors and statistical analysis, such as factor analysis [29,30], survey and case study [23,31]. Moreover, there were complex loop structure between the payment and project scheduling [32].…”
