In this study, we analyzed expressive illocutionary acts in Manchester United Instagram comments, drawing on Searle's framework. Public figures and sports clubs, including Manchester United, leverage Instagram for personal branding and fan interaction. Our research focused on three distinct posts, revealing a spectrum of speech acts. The analysis identified a prevalence of thanking (14%), complaining (26%), complimenting (23%), wishing (20%), and greeting (17%). Notably, complaints stood out, indicating follower dissatisfaction with recent club developments. This underscores the significance of social media platforms in fostering user engagement and communication. The study sheds light on how fans express themselves in written form, contributing to the broader understanding of online interactions and the dynamics of fan-club relationships. As Instagram continues to play a pivotal role in communication, our findings offer insights into the diverse ways users engage with a prominent sports brand like Manchester United on this platform.

The term flouting maxim refers to a situation in which a speaker deliberately fails to uphold one of Grice’s conversational maxims, called the Grice a maxim: quantity, quality, relation, and manner. In the movie A Man Called Otto, there were several times when the cast committed violations of the maxim. Due to the discovery of these problems, the primary aims of this study are to ascertain the various categories of maxims that are flouted within the movie “A Man Called Otto,” and to provide an explanation of the situational context underlying the character’s dialogues that involve the flouting of maxims. The data were analyzed by the theory proposed by Cutting, (2002) as the leading theory to find out the types of flouting maxims, and the theory context of the situation offered by Halliday, M. A. K., & Hasan, (1989) was used. In this study, the method utilized for analyzing the data was a descriptive qualitative, while observing and note-taking techniques were used in collecting the data. The results of this study indicate that the characters in the movie “A Man Called Otto” flouted the conversational maxims. The maxim of relation was found to be the most frequently flouted, followed by the maxim of quantity, the maxim of quality, and lastly, the maxim of manner.

This study is focused to analysis the types of illocutionary acts produced by Harry Potter and Hermione Granger in Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2 movie. This study used theory proposed by Searle (1979) to classify the types of illocutionary acts. The qualitative method is used in this study and used observation method in collecting the data. This study used formal and informal method in presenting the data. According to the data analysis there are 48 utterances of illocutionary act. The highest of illocutionary act produced by Harry and Hermione is directive with percentage 48%. In the second is assertive with percentage 25%. The third is expressive with percentage 15% and the last is commissive with percentage 13%.
