Analysis of events with b-jets and a pair of leptons of the same charge in pp collisions at s = 8 $$ \sqrt{s}=8 $$ TeV with the ATLAS detector

Abstract: Analysis of events with b-jets and a pair of leptons of the same charge in pp collisions at √ s = 8 TeV with the ATLAS detectorThe ATLAS collaboration E-mail: atlas.publications@cern.chAbstract: An analysis is presented of events containing jets including at least one btagged jet, sizeable missing transverse momentum, and at least two leptons including a pair of the same electric charge, with the scalar sum of the jet and lepton transverse momenta being large. A data sample with an integrated luminosity of 20.… Show more

“…Therefore, VLQs will dominantly decay to either a gauge boson or a Higgs plus a SM quark. Both ATLAS and CMS have performed searches for VLQs and have set lower limits on the VLQs masses up to 990 GeV at the 95% confidence level (CL) depending on the representations and the decay branching ratio [549][550][551][552][553][554][555][556][557][558][559][560].…”

“…This makes it a striking signature for BSM theories that could predict SS lepton pairs via cascaded decays. The ATLAS Run 1 data set was used in a search for SS lepton pairs in association with b-jets, with the goal of constraining BSM models that predict heavy vector-like quarks (VLQs) [41]. This kind of search is sensitive to the ttH and tH production modes of the simplified model considered in this article, since a SS lepton pair can be selected from the combination leptonic top quark decays and S → V V decays.…”

“…In the high mass region (m Z 330 GeV) the most stringent constraints come from limits on tttt production where the Z is produced in association with top quarks. The upper bound on the cross-section from the ATLAS same-sign dilepton search [48] is 70 fb assuming SM kinematics. In order to determine the bound on ttZ production we have simulated 5 × 10 4 events (using MadGraph5 aMC@NLO, Pythia 6.4 [49] and Delphes 3 [50]) for a range of Z masses and calculated a relative signal efficiency with respect to the SM.…”
