Analysis of Dynamic Characteristics and Power Losses of High Speed on/off Valve with Pre-Existing Control Algorithm

Abstract: A high-speed on/off valve (HSV) is generally the core component of a digital hydraulic transmission system. Therefore, its dynamic characteristics often restrict the overall performance of the digital hydraulic system. Most of the current studies focus on the optimization on the dynamic characteristics or the energy characteristics, few studies have comprehensively considered the two characteristics of the valve together. In this paper, a pre-existing control algorithm (PECA) is proposed to improve the dynamic… Show more

“…In Refs. [45,46], a pre-existing voltage control algorithm which adapts to the different supply pressures was proposed, and the corresponding flow chart is presented in Figure 8. In this research, a low voltage was preloaded to the coil before the valve opened and the opening dynamic performance of the valve was improved by increasing the initial current.…”

“…Wang et al 16 focused on addressing the spool oscillation of a dual-system direct drive servo valve and identified the pressure pulsation of the valve cavity shoulder surface caused by valve port cavitation as the primary factor contributing to valve spool oscillation. Zhong et al 17,18 investigated the dynamic characteristic and temperature rising characteristic of the high-speed on/off valve. Most of the studies focused on the oscillation of servo and poppet valves and the cavitation caused by oscillation.…”

“…Generally, the opening and closing lag time of the HSV can be reduced through preloading a signal to make the current of the valve core close to the critical switch value. Zhong et al [24,25] proposed a pre-excitation control algorithm (PECA) based on the principle of multi-voltage driving, which reduced the lag time of the valve response, and improved the energy conversion efficiency. In [13], Zhong et al extended the controllable duty cycle range, by switching PWM signals with different amplitudes through real-time current feedback.…”
