Recently, there is a significant increase in the number of people pursuing healthy living and expecting firms to adopt green manufacturing practices leading to improvement in the standard of living. The rapid deterioration of the environment has harmfully affected the socio-economic growth and development across the nations of the world. The severity of this effect is more pronounced among developing nations. The concern for a sustainable environment is thriving as one of the priorities for strategic firms, organization management, manufacturers, and product designers. The study present a critical review of the existing works of literature on green manufacturing,its evolution,definition and concept. The economic, environmental, social impacts from a global perspectives were discussed. The various challenges militating against its implementation and its possible drivers were examined. However, there are numerous opportunities and future research in the area of green manufacturing that are yet to be explored. Alpha Lanka (Pvt) Ltd operates in the apparel accessories industry in Sri Lanka, where On-time delivery (OTD) performance is a vital factor. However, achieving OTD to the expected level which is from 90% to 95% has become a challenge due to the complications in the production planning process. Currently, the production planning process is done manually by using Excel spreadsheets which increases the complexity of the planning process. The aim of this study is to recommend an innovative production planning tool that enhances OTD performance while giving accurate promise dates. The scope of this work is limited to one specific product line within the company. The study adopts an exploratory research design to clarify the problem and uncover new insights. The main research approach is qualitative research since it mainly considers the subjective experiences of people. Unstructured and semi-structured interviews, focus groups, and observations have been employed as primary data collection methods, and company records have been employed as secondary data collection methods. Finally, the research used process modeling, Pareto analysis, root cause analysis, and 5 why as the techniques to analyze the data. The analysis showed that Production delays were the main cause of OTD delays. This study suggested a model of a production planning tool that was developed using spreadsheets and related process improvements to achieve a proper production planning process. The tool was developed using various functionalities and formulas of spreadsheets to streamline the production planning with estimated lead time and to organize the production planning data effectively. Overall, the study provides valuable insights into the production planning process.

The palm oil industry has emerged as one of the leading producers and exporters, as supported by data from the Central Bureau of Statistics in 2021, which indicates that Indonesian palm oil exports reached an impressive value of USD 18.44 billion, or IDR 258 trillion, in 2020, marking 18.43 percent growth compared to the previous year. Furthermore, the domestic markets for palm oil and palm kernel oil remain substantial despite improvements in export quantities. Various industries, including cooking oil refineries, specialty fats, shortening, margarine, bath soaps, and oleochemicals, present potential markets for palm oil (CPO) and palm kernel oil (PKO). The palm oil industry encompasses four related subsectors, namely growers, millers, refiners, and oleochemicals, forming an integrated value chain from upstream to downstream. The current focus on environmental, economic, and social sustainability drives companies to adopt internal green activities and expand their efforts toward sustainable supply chain management (SSCM). Implementing SSCM practices is often seen as economically beneficial, as research has demonstrated their positive impact on corporate performance from a resource perspective. Many green management applications are utilized in the palm oil industry. This study examines and highlights existing sustainable management practices across the entire palm oil supply chain, focusing on producing high-quality palm oil. This study utilized a systematic review methodology. A total of 62 articles were analyzed, which involved an extensive review of the relevant literature to identify research trends, gaps, and issues. This study contributes to the body of knowledge by expanding the theory of organizational readiness to prepare globally competitive palm oil products. The research findings hold practical significance for practitioners and academics by providing a comprehensive road map for implementing green management applications at the organizational level in the palm oil industry’s upstream-to-downstream chain.
