Analysis of Data Joining From Different Instruments for Object Modelling

Abstract: Abstract. The aim of this contribution is an analysis of related technologies for data capturing for creating a digital twin of selected construction. As a case project a baroque church was selected. Four technologies were used for object modelling: TLS (terrestrial laser scanning), digital close-range photogrammetry SfM (structure from motion) as a terrestrial and aerial (drone) technology, and PLS (personal mobile laser scanner). It was possible to combine data from drone and terrestrial photogrammetry, the … Show more

“…The standards of representation and correctness of the finished output can be effectively improved by integrating several approaches (Valenti and Paternò, 2019). A consolidated approach used in many domains, including mapping, monitoring, and the documenting of cultural heritage, is the use of UAS (Unmanned Aircraft System) platforms for the collecting of visual data, such as photographs and videos (Ulvi, 2021;Pavelka et al, 2022;Rodríguez-Martín et al, 2022).…”

“…The reason for the comparison is the increasing use of spherical cameras in surveying [3], [4], [5]. It is also a cheaper alternative to mobile mapping using simultaneous localisation and mapping (SLAM) technology [6], [7]. The accuracy of the results of SfM from spherical images is comparable to mobile mapping with SLAM in places with good light conditions and abundant features with distinct texture (unlike white walls).…”

“…To achieve sufficient overlap, it is better to set the frequency of the images to 0.5s. Previous experience shows that images with an interval larger than 1s can be hard to process [7]. Insta360 cameras also offer Interval camera mode, which takes regular photos every fixed time interval.…”

“…Data collection was minimal, with most existing data presented in paper format. Nowadays, the concept of the digital twin has become a global phenomenon, marked by remarkable advances [1,2].…”
