Analysis of building deformation in landslide area using multisensor PSInSAR™ technique

Abstract: HighlightsWe analyze ground deformation velocities of the buildings in San Fratello (Sicily, Italy). We analyze satellite PSI data using different sensors, acquired from 1992 to 2012.We performed a damages assessment map after the landslide occurred on the 14th February 2010.The obtained data were compared to evaluate the residual risk.

“…Soro Flysch-Argille Scagliose unit), deeply influencing the area landscape and causing widespread slope instability phenomena. For these reasons, the San Fratello area has been historically prone to hydrogeological hazards: during the last three centuries, two large landslides, occurring in 1754 and in 1922, respectively, had already destroyed the north-eastern and western sectors of the town (Bardi et al 2014;Ciampalini et al 2014;.…”

“…Integrated satellite and ground-based displacement maps can be performed to distinguish the areas characterized by displacements from the areas without evidence of movements, following a binary approach (stable/unstable). The combined use of satellite and ground-based SAR data can provide ground displacement measurements with higher spatio-temporal resolution and coverage than the stand-alone use of the techniques, which can be satisfactorily applied for mapping and monitoring landslide phenomena [27,36].…”

“…In past research, space-borne advanced SAR interferometry has been used to map and monitor movements and related building deformations on landslide-prone and -affected areas [11][12][13]. In particular, several works deal with the use of PS motion rates for detecting displacements in urbanized and cultural heritage sites [14][15][16][17][18][19], as well as for monitoring single urban structures [20,21].…”
