Analysis of active control of metal transfer in modified pulsed GMAW

Abstract: In the active control of metal transfer of modified pulsed current gas metal arc welding (GMAW) through proper phase matching of the detaching electromagnetic force and the downward momentum of the droplets, one drop detachment per pulse (ODDPP) mode can be achieved reliably at a pulse current lower than the critical transition value. An analytical model is developed to analyse the droplet oscillation and detachment process and the effect of pulse parameters on the dynamic behaviour of metal transfer in active… Show more

“…One such set of the experiment were the experiments Expt 12 and Expt 25, whose rms value of the coefficients W(3,1), W (3,3), and W (3,4) for the current signals are 0.0968, 0.0555, 0.0281 and 0.0982, 0.0571, 0.0270 (see Table 2), respectively, (for Expt 12 and Expt 25). But their tensile strength differed by a huge amount of 268.4 MPa.…”

“…The area of heat-affected zone (HAZ) has to be reduced to improve the weld quality. The weld quality as well as productivity can be significantly improved using pulsing mode of current in thin sheet metal fabrication industries [3,4]. Current pulsing can refine the grains of weld microstructure [5].…”

“…Domestic and foreign scholars proposed a new type of multielectrode arc welding technology. Zhang et al [6][7][8][9] at the University of Kentucky proposed double-electrode gas metal arc welding (DE-GMAW), in which a bypass electrode is used to reduce the heat input to workpiece and to ensure the deposition rate. In 2012, Zhang et al [10][11][12][13][14] proposed bypass arcing-wire gas metal arc welding (arcing-wire GTAW), which uses a non-consumable electrode arc of a main road and a consumable electrode arc of a bypass in coupling.…”

“…Pulsed current Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) is a way to achieve controlled metal transfer. An analytical model was developed for explaining the droplet oscillation and detachment process in pulsed current GMAW [8] - [9]. The oscillation of arc welding was proved to be another method of generating agitations in weld pool.…”
