Analysis of a coaxially fed monopole in a rectangular waveguide

Abstract: The boundary-value problem of a coaxially fed monopole in a rectangular waveguide is solved. The technique of image method is applied to transform the original problem into an equivalent problem. A fast convergent series solution based on the Fourier transform and mode matching is presented. Our computation results compare favorably with other existing data.

“…Some waveguides used as hyperthermia applicators are the ridged waveguides, [6] the AMC-4 array [7] and the two tilted waveguide [8]; however, all of them are fed by monopole antennas [1,[6][7][8]. There are performance studies of monopoles proposed for ISM-band applications, which have been used in the design of feeders for microwave antennas [9,10]. Studies of antennas that have similar geometry than that of the plate antenna [11] and the analysis of the coaxial-to-waveguide adaptor incorporating a disc-ended probe [12] are reported.…”

“…All the studies are carried out about the monopole antenna [5,6]. Some studies about waveguides in cancer treatments are the microwave phased array thermotherapy in treatments of primary breast carcinomas in where the waveguide was feed with a monopole antenna [7] or the RF hyperthermia array that consist of 4 waveguides feed with a monopole antenna [3].…”

“…The problem of a coaxially fed monopole in a shorted rectangular waveguide was studied in [3,4]. Recently, the boundary-value problems of monopoles in a parallel-plate waveguide [5] and in a rectangular waveguide [6] have been solved with the techniques of Fourier transform, mode matching, and superposition. A single monopole in a shorted parallel-plate waveguide was also considered in [7].…”

“…A single monopole in a shorted parallel-plate waveguide was also considered in [7]. The purpose of the present article is to present a series solution for a coaxially fed monopole array placed in a shorted waveguide by using the analytic techniques used in [5][6][7]. Although the shorted waveguide geometry considered in this article is a special case of [5], the final solution will be very useful for practical applications dealing with shorted waveguide junctions with coaxially fed monopoles.…”
