Analysis and Design of a Compact Multi-Layer Ultra Wide Band Filter

Abstract: Abstract-This paper presents analysis and design of a compact ultra wide band (UWB) filter using three parallel folded coupled lines in a defected ground structure in multi-layer structure. Defected ground has been incorporated under the coupled lines of the filter to improve the coupling over a wide bandwidth. The closed form expressions for even and odd mode impedances for the coupled lines with defected ground have been obtained to design a filter of desired bandwidth with the proposed structure. Based on c… Show more

“…As we can see, the bandwidth of the UWB BPF decreases as Y 3 increases, and increases as f 0 , θ 4 , Y 4 increase. In this way, the bandwidth for the passband of the UWB BPF with the SRQMR can be conveniently controlled by varying the characteristic matrix Y 3 , Y 4 and θ 4 when Y 1 , Y 2 and θ 1 , θ 2 are fixed. Therefore, by properly tuning the dimensions of the SRQMR, a new super compact microstrip UWB BPF can be achieved with the desired bandwidth.…”

“…There are many techniques presented to design UWB BPF. For example, quad-mode resonator (MMR) [2,3], multilayer coupled structure [4,5], and cascaded low-pass/highpass filters [6] have been widely used to achieve UWB characteristics.…”

“…Recently, a number of compact printed resonators have profited from the patterning of the backside metallization of the substrate [17][18][19][20] in order to enhance their performance. These are known as defected ground structures (DGS).…”
