Analysis and classification of droplet characteristics from atomizers using multifractal analysis

Abstract: Atomizers find applications in diverse fields such as agriculture, pharmaceutics and combustion. Among the most commonly found atomizer classes of designs are pressure swirl, airblast and ultrasonic atomizers. However, it has thus far not been possible to identify the class of an atomizer from spray characteristics. We perform multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis on the droplet inter-arrival times, diameters and axial velocities of pressure swirl, airblast and ultrasonic nebulizer sprays to quantify the… Show more

“…Large particles (5–15 μm) were mainly deposited in the upper airways and trachea, intermediate-sized particles (3–5 μm) were tendency deposited in the bronchi and bronchioles, and small particles (≤ 3 μm) were flowed into the alveoli [ 29 ]. The aerosol characteristics were closely related to the device of atomizer, which depended on the design of pressure swirl, airblast and ultrasonic atomizers [ 30 ]. The ultrasonic atomizers operated at different frequencies, which were well with the median droplet size [ 31 ].…”

“…There are diverse details that typify the spray formation, which are the technique and configuration of the atomization process, dimension and structure of the nozzle, experimental parameters, etc. [23]. Even though there are literature surveys on various atomization processes [24][25][26][27], the complexity of the technique, the possession of the atomizer on the droplet qualities, imprecision in computation strategies are still not well understood [28,29].…”
