Analysing and determining substitutability of different granularity Web services

Abstract: Substitutability of Web service is the key aspect for ensuring reliability of Web service-oriented software. Along with more large and coarse granularity services appear across the Internet continuously, it has become a new challenge that how to determine the substitutability between different granularity services. In this paper, we propose the notion of interface inverted dependence to reveal all functions and business logic of large granularity services. A formal model is bulit by extending the Martin-Löf's … Show more

“…However, from the requirement layer and ontological layer, the description in terms of fact, data, knowledge, and wisdom is more general for sharing understanding on the efficiency and effectiveness of a process concerning completeness, consistency, and reliability. 38 Ontologically, the coherent process from business planning to IT implementation consists basic conceptual activities of data observation/collection, information transferring from sender to receiver (could be human or machine), and knowledge creation. These basic activities comprise superficial semantics in requirement specification transferred to design artifacts accumulatively.…”

“…However, the diversity and complexity of user requirements cannot be implemented by a single service, [1][2][3] and a dynamic composition of services technology is required to respond to a changing market and maximize business benefits. 4 Although networks can help users use and combine target services in certain cases, this process is passive and requires users to connect to the Internet. A hybrid network emphasizes wireless communication, and mobile devices represent an important component.…”

“…In general, service process is defined in term of workflows, a flexible mechanism to implement business logics [4], by which the advantages of high interoperability, crossplatform-ability and loose coupling contribute to dynamically assign services to each task of workflow in run-time environment. However, due to the heterogeneous, open and collaborative natures of Internet, any service failure may immediately result in operation faults and application interrupts [5]. It will seriously influence on the correctness and reliability of business process, even causing economic losses.…”
