“…A deletion of ERF199 has been detected in nine tobacco germplasms with low‐nicotine traits: TI95, TI313, TI554, and TI1041 analyzed in this study and TI508, TI516, TI527, TI1211, and TI785 reported additionally by Burner et al. (2022). The positions and sizes of these individual ERF199 deletions were mostly distinct between the examined lines (Figure 4a, Figure S4), suggesting the occurrence of multiple alleles that possibly arose independently, indicating that ERF199 may be a mutational hotspot for low‐nicotine traits.…”
