Analogies between antiferromagnets and antiferroelectrics

Abstract: Ferro‐ and antiferromagnetism in the Laves phase TiBe2−xCuxx occurs for 0.1 ⪅ x ⪅ 0.2 and below x ⪅ 0.1, respectively, and is thought to be due to competing mechanisms. Analogous competing, and also cooperative mechanisms in the historically first antiferroelectric NH4H2PO4 and its solid solutions with TIH2PO4 and with the ferroelectric KH2PO4 are discussed as funciton of deuteration and of pressure. Another analogy as function of pressure is established with the antiferroelectric perovskite PbZrO3.
