Analog/RF Solutions Enabling Compact Full-Duplex Radios

Abstract: In-band full-duplex sets challenging requirements for wireless communication radios, in particular their capability to prevent receiver sensitivity degradation due to self-interference (transmit signals leaking into its own receiver). Previously published self-interference rejection designs require bulky components and/or antenna structures. This paper addresses this form-factor issue. First, compact radio transceiver feasibility bottlenecks are identified analytically, and tradeoff equations in function of li… Show more

“…Then, we propose an approximation for very low values of U. Indeed, the values assumed herein are quite conservative compared to the levels reported by the state-of-the-art interference cancellation (combining antenna isolation, analog and digital cancellation), which are close to the noise floor, (see, for instance [41]), so that Here, the term (W 0 + 1) 2 is always greater than 1. Again, by using the approximation for the harmonic mean, this probability can be reduced to After simplifying this multi-fold integral, we obtain the expression in (27).…”

“…At the base-station, the downlink transmitted signal will leak into its own receiver RF chain (which is referred to as self-interference) and mixed with the received signals from the uplink channel. Advanced analog and digital self-interference cancellation techniques are able to suppress significant amount of this interference [3]. Similarly, at the user terminal, the downlink channel will suffer from the inter-user interference due to the uplink transmission from other users.…”

“…The amplitude and phase of this signal are then modified by a mechanism in the cancellation circuit. This mechanism can be a single tap [6], [7] or multi-tap [3], [5], [8] analog filter. Kolodziej et.…”
