Spatial distribution of mangrove health index on three genera dominated zones in Benoa Bay, Bali, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 23: 3407-3418. A study of mangrove forest stratification was conducted in Benoa Bay which experienced high coastal development pressures during the last decade. The study aimed to determine mangrove health index distribution (MHI) and forest community structures along three genera-dominated zones which were Sonneratia, Rhizophora and Bruguiera. Random forest method was applied to classify the areas of distributed genera along the bay. Forest structure was assessed with 54 plots. The forest was mainly composed of Rhizophora and Sonneratia-dominated zones in a respective forest area proportion at approximately 51% and 45%. Those zones were dominated by R. mucronata and S. alba with an importance value index (IVI) at 266.35% and 145.57%, respectively. A narrow Bruguiera zone composed of B. gymnorrhiza domination was found in the most landward area, only covering 4% of the mangrove area. Overall accuracy and a kappa coefficient indicated high accuracy of forest classification at 97% and 0.94 respectively. We found that 47.44% of mangrove areas could be classified into the highest healthiness category indicating that the mangrove forest in Benoa Bay is in excellent condition. The Rhizophora zone made a significant contribution to the entire forest state since the excellent category coverage in this zone was approximately 73.80%.

Mangrove forests in tropics coastlines area play an essential role in carbon fixation and carbon storage. Mangrove forests in coastal areas are very effective and efficient in reducing the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere because mangroves can absorb CO2 through photosynthesis by diffusion through stomata and then store carbon in the form of biomass. With the lack of efforts to manage mangrove forests, it needs to be developed so that forest functions can be utilized sustainably. This paper describes examining the use of remote sensing data, particularly dual-polarization ALOS-2 PALSAR-2 data, with the primary objective to estimate the carbon stock of mangrove forests in Benoa Bay, Bali. The carbon stock was estimated by analyzing HV Polarization, Above Ground Biomass (AGB), and ground biomass (BGB). The total carbon stock was obtained by multiplying the total biomass with the organic carbon value of 0.47. The potential carbon stock in the mangrove Benoa Bay area is 209,027.28 ton C to absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) of 767,130.11 ton CO2 Sequestration same with 3.87 X 1011 bottles in 2015 and 204.422,59 ton C to absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) of 750.230,93 ton CO2 Sequestration same with 3.79 x 1011 bottles in 2020.

Ekosistem mangrove memiliki peran penting dalam kawasan pesisir baik secara langsung maupun tidak langsung. Kelestarian ekosistem mangrove dapat digambarkan dari kelimpahan semaian. Penelitian tentang status regenerasi alami mangrove telah dilakukan di kawasan Teluk Benoa, Bali. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis tingkat regenerasi mangrove berdasarkan kelimpahan semai, serta hubungannya dengan karakter ekologi mangrove dalam kawasan. Area penelitian dibagi menjadi tiga zona dengan total 30 titik pengambilan sampel dengan distribusi yang proporsional. Pada setiap titik dilakukan pengambilan data struktur komunitas semai, tegakan dewasa (pohon, pancang) dan parameter lingkungan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan status regenerasi mangrove di kawasan ini termasuk dalam kategori cukup baik, berdasarkan perbandingan dari kelimpahan semaian dengan tegakan kategori pancang dan pohon. Kerapatan semai tertinggi ditemukan pada zona 2 yang didominasi oleh Rhizophora mucronata dengan rata-rata sebesar 4800 ± 5610 tegakan/ha yang berbeda signifikan dengan dua zona lainnya. Variasi kondisi struktur komunitas mangrove pada tiga zona tidak memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap kelimpahan semai. Sementara itu, dua faktor lingkungan yaitu pH dan potensial redoks memiliki korelasi yang positif dan signifikan memengaruhi jumlah sebaran semai mangrove di dalam kawasan. Hasil penelitian mengindikasikan bahwa tingkat regenerasi mangrove masih mampu bertahan dalam tekanan habitat yang cukup tinggi.
