Farmers have traditionally used livestock waste, such as feces or urine, in a limited capacity as organic fertilizer. Biogas can be generated from this waste and used as a long-term source of renewable energy. The research purpose is to determine the use of beef cattle waste as a source of energy via biogas in tidal land, with a case study in Barambai and Rantau Badauh Districts, Barito Kuala District, South Kalimantan. A survey was conducted in September 2018 in the villages of Kolam Kiri Dalam, Barambai District, and Danda Jaya, Rantau Badauh District, Barito Kuala Regency, which have a tidal agro-ecosystem and serve as a center for the development of the Bali cattle in intensive rearing system. The intensive maintenance system makes it simple to collect and use livestock waste. Since the manure has accumulated in the cage, making it easier to remove, this condition differs from others that are still semi-intensive and widespread. The result demonstrate that farmers gain benefit from biogas because livestock waste is utilized to prevent environmental pollution and they save Rp. 1,920,000 per family per year in Kolam Kiri Village and Rp. 1,530,000 per family per year in Danda Jaya Village. Farmers' assessments of economic and environmental factors strongly agree, and their assessments of social factors are quite agreeable and useful. Since biogas is expensive to built, it hasn't been widely adopted, but if the government offers financial assistance to farmers, they will adopt it.

Salah satu sumber biomassa potensial di pedesaan adalah limbah disektor peternakan. Bila dikelola dengan efektif dan efisien akan menjadi sumber energi untuk menopang kebutuhan energi di pedesaan. Kemandirian energi berbasis pedesaan dapat membantu meringankan beban pemerintah dalam mengatasi krisis energi. Disisi lain, krisis lingkungan akibat produksi limbah dan pencemaran limbah terus meningkat. Oleh karena itu dibutuhkan kearifan ekologis untuk mengatasi multikrisis tersebut. Langkah pemanfaatan limbah dan kotoran dari usaha ternak menjadi produk biogas, cukup memungkinkan untuk menyuplai kebutuhan energi listrik dalam skala rumah tangga di pedesaan. Berdasarkan perhitungan potensi limbah kotoran ternak di Kecamatan Kusambi, Sulawesi Tenggara diperoleh potensi biogas sebesar 120,724 m3/hari serta potensi listrik sebesar 547,4028 kwH/hari. Hasil sampingann biogas masih dapat digunakan untuk pupuk organik padat dan cair. Hal merupakan implementasi dari konsep produksi bersih yang menitikberatkan pengurangan produksi limbah (zero waste).

This research aims to analyze the non-financial feasibility of using livestock waste as raw material for biogas. Qualitative data was obtained to provide an overview of the cattle farming business, the implementation of waste processing with a biogas installation, where the final result is biogas which can be utilized by livestock breeder groups and the community around the installation. The feasibility of this activity is determined using the differential semantic scale formula. The results of the non-financial feasibility analysis show that the business of using livestock waste as raw material for biogas is feasible to develop in terms of market aspects, technical aspects, management aspects, as well as social and environmental aspects. The two biogas installations granted by the regional government were able to help the community save energy.
