Mathematical problem-solving ability is the ability to identify known information, ask questions, adequacy of the information needed, skill in creating or compiling mathematical models, being able to find the right solution strategy, and being able to explain and check the correctness of the solution obtained. This research aims to analyze students' mathematical problem-solving abilities in the topic on mixed integer arithmetic operations based on Polya's problem-solving steps. This research uses a qualitative approach with a narrative research type. The research subjects consisted of 32 junior high school students. Data collection was carried out using mathematical problem-solving ability test instruments and interviews with several selected participants. Data was analyzed based on Polya's problem solving steps. Based on the results of data analysis, students' problem-solving abilities obtained based on these four steps are in the form of students who can determine important information in the problem and can plan solutions resulting in them being able to solve problems more regularly, namely by executing the plans they have planned. After that, students who understand the problem well can also check the correctness of the answers they have obtained. Therefore, it is hoped that this research can help teachers to implement a learning process that can develop problem solving abilities.

The ability to solve problems is one of the goals of mathematics education. The aim of this study was to describe the problem-solving skill of students in class VII-1 of MTsL 3 Tapanuli Selatan on the material of the Plane figure with ethnomathematical nuances of Sipirok woven fabrics patterns. This qualitative descriptive research involved 25 students of class VII-1 MTsN 3 Tapanuli Selatan as the subjects. Data collection techniques included problem-solving skills tests and interview papers. The results showed that the student's problem-solving skills based on the steps Polya, flat geometric material with ethnomathematical nuances for class VII-I, belonged to the low category with an average percentage of 55.4% and the step indicator more dominant of the polya was an indicator understanding the problem with 80% capture.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendiskripsikan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika berdasarkan langkah Polya. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data adalah tes, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Subjek dalam penelitian ini dipilih dengan teknik purposive sampling. Subjek yang dipilih sebanyak 6 siswa berdasarkan hasil tes dan dibagi ke dalam 3 kelompok, setiap kelompok masing-masing terdiri dari 2 siswa dengan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika tinggi, sedang dan rendah untuk kemudian diwawancara. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan yaitu model Miles & Hubarman dengan langkah-langkah : pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa: 1) kategori tinggi, mampu dalam memahami masalah, mampu merencanakan penyelesaian, mampu melaksanakan rencana penyelesaian meski terjadi sedikit kesalahan dalam perhitungan, dan mampu melihat kembali hasil; 2) kategori sedang, mampu memahami masalah, kurang mampu dalam merencanakan penyelesaian, kurang mampu dalam melaksanakan rencana penyelesaian dan kurang mampu dalam tahap melihat kembali hasil; 3) kategori rendah, kurang mampu memahami masalah, tidak mampu merencanakan penyelesaian, tidak mampu melaksanakan rencana penyelesaian dan tidak mampu melihat kembali hasil yang diperoleh.
