“…In light of this vegetation heterogeneity, there have been multiple attempts to characterize and name the coastal scrub habitat of northwestern Baja California: Thorne (1976) designated it as maritime desert scrub; Heady et al (1977) and Mooney (1977) called it succulent scrub; Kirkpatrick and Hutchinson (1977) and Axelrod (1978) identified the region as Diegan coastal sage vegetation; and Delgadillo (1998) referred to it as coastal succulent scrub.
