The West Sumatra provincial government from 2016 to 2018 implemented a new paddy field expansion programme. Currently, 73.33% of paddy fields are not managed by farmers. The paddy fields have been converted into plantations, buildings, and many are abandoned. The purpose of this study is to formulate strategies that can optimize the management of rice paddy farming in the location of new rice field expansion in the province of West Sumatra. This research uses mixed methods, combining quantitative methods with qualitative methods. The type of research used is survey research. The research location was determined by purposive technique, namely 8 districts where the implementation of new rice field expansion in West Sumatera Province. Respondents and research informants were selected using a purposive technique. The number of respondents was 48 paddy rice farmers and 22 informants from agricultural extension workers and Nagari government officials. The questionnaire data collection technique was used to obtain: a) data and information on the current condition of paddy rice farmland in the location of new rice field expansion; b) supporting and inhibiting factors in the management of paddy rice farming. In addition, interview techniques were used in conjunction with direct observation activities at the research site. Secondary data were obtained through documentation techniques, which were analyzed using the content analysis method. Qualitative data were analyzed using descriptive interpretative techniques, while quantitative data were analyzed using multivariate analysis techniques in Structural Equation Modeling -Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS). The results of this study are that only 26.67% of the new rice fields are managed by farmers. Strategies that can be used to optimize rice wetland management in new wet rice-expansion areas include optimizing agricultural extension to empower farmers' institutions and competencies, improving irrigation infrastructure, and utilizing wet rice farming technology. The strategy can be an input for the government in formulating policies to optimize the management of paddy farming in the location of new rice field expansion. The strategies formulated set this research apart from previous studies.

This study aims to determine peanut production in Lindo Village, Wadaga District, West Muna Regency, and determine the effect of land area, seeds, labor, herbicides, and farming experience on peanut production in Lindo Village, Wadaga District, Muna Regency. West. This research was conducted in Lindo Village, Wadaga District, West Muna Regency, from December to February 2022. This research used the census method on a population of all peanut farmers in Lindo Village, totaling 53 families, all of whom were respondents in this study. The data used in this study is quantitative data obtained from two sources: primary data from direct interviews with respondents and secondary data from the Central Bureau of Statistics of West Muna Regency. The dependent variable in this research is peanut production, and the independent variables are land area, seeds, labor, herbicides, and farming experience. Data analysis used descriptive qualitative analysis and Cobb-Douglas function regression analysis. The results showed that (1) peanut production in Lindo Village, Wadaga District, Muna Barat Regency was 39,816 kg/ha with an average of 751.25 kg/ha, and (2) Simultaneously (together) the independent variables, which included area land (X1), seeds (X2), labor (X3), pesticides (X4), and farming experience (X5) have a real influence on peanut production. Partially, land area (X1) and seeds (X2) have a positive and significant influence on peanut farming production, while labor (X3), pesticides (X4), and farming experience (X5) do not affect peanut farming production. Based on the research results, several suggestions can be submitted, namely, farmers to increase farmer production in peanut farming by expanding land, increasing the use of seeds, adjusting the use of herbicides and labor, and increasing the use of inputs to maximize production. The government can provide counseling and guidance, more intensive technical assistance to increase peanut production, and facilities or infrastructure assistance in peanut farming.

This study aims to analyze the optimal use of production factors and business risks in independent palm oil farming. This research was conducted in Jebak, Ampelu, and Ampetu Mudo, Muara Tembesi District villages. The analytical method used is descriptive and quantitative analysis. Descriptive method to see the description of farming. A quantitative method to analyze input usage by using the cobb-Douglas function. The sample villages were determined purposively based on the consideration that the three villages had the largest area of productive plantations (TM). Determination of the number of samples used the census method with a total of 116 respondents. The results showed that (1) palm oil production produced from oil palm farming activities in the study area averaged 15,025.18 kg/ha/year with an average selling price of Rp. 2.208/kg. Farmers operate oil palm farming with a land area of 2.55 ha/farmer, plant age of 10.87 years, fertilizer 243.92 kg/ha/year, herbicides 2.29 liters/ha/year, and labor 88.60 HOK /ha/year. (2). Partially, the variables of land area, plant age, and use of fertilizers have a positive and significant effect on independent oil palm production in Muara Tembesi District, Batanghari Regency, while the variables use of herbicides and use of labor do not have a significant effect on oil palm production. The optimal use of production factors for a land area of 3.82 ha and fertilizer use is 1,053.55 kg/ha/year. (3). Independent oil palm farming is consistently profitable, with a CV value <0.5, the L value > 0, and the R/C value obtained is R/C = 4.45 per farmer and R/C = 4.48 per hectare.
